Our House ~ A Chevron Bench

You have no idea how excited I was to find this little beauty last week.

I stopped into Home Sense on the way home one day last week and was pleasantly surprised by some of the super cute items they have in stock right now. I instantly fell in love with a number of pieces and started taking photos and sending them to David for his approval. Unfortunately he was busy with Sydney so it was up to me to make some decisions. He was lucky that I showed some restraint... I honestly could have spent so much more!

My big purchase of the day was this incredible Chevron bench for the front entry way. It is the perfect size and color and I could not be any happier!

I decided that it was the perfect place to store all of our hats, mittens and scarves... Sydney decided that it was perfect for hiding and playing!

Montreal Style ~ Sydney

We are less than a week away from our trip to Montreal!

I am getting so excited to take our little girl to one of the most stylish cities in Canada. We are packing up and heading out next Thursday morning for some relaxation, shopping, sight seeing... oh ya, and David is doing Ironman!

I have been dreaming of the perfect, fashionable outfit for Miss Sydney for Montreal and I think this is it. Now, if only I can convince David that this is obviously a necessary expense.

Our House ~ Throw Pillows

Your going to think I am crazy.... but these are the fabrics I have chosen for the throw pillows in our home:

I ran into Chintz and Company over the lunch hour and picked up a few eclectic printed fabrics. I know that they look a little bit loud but I promise that once they are all put together they will look so good! I have a small obsession with color and pattern and I am working really had to make everything come together.

I plan on making several throw pillows for various rooms in the house. I can't wait to sit down at the sewing machine tonight and get started! I will let you know how it goes.

Next step.... coffee table.

Backyard Swims

Sydney got a new pool.

We have had some incredibly hot weather in Edmonton lately. This means hot days and stormy nights for us. My parents decided that since we have a nice, new backyard, we needed to start taking advantage of it. They bought her a very cool inflatable pool that has a spout at the top that sprays water. We set it up in the backyard and set Sydney loose. She had so much fun!

She could have cared less how cold the water was. All she wanted to do was play. It is so nice to finally have a backyard for her to use!

Sydney Meets Elmo

Like most kids her age, Sydney has latched on to a character that she really loves. In her case... it's Elmo.

She is an Elmo fanatic! It began with all of our long road trips. We invested in a DVD player for the car and a few Elmo and Sesame Street DVD's. At first I wasn't sure if she would be into them... But she has proven me wrong. Elmo is like her version of the Beatles, so when I found out that Elmo live was coming to town, I knew we had to take her.

David was working night shift so unfortunately he missed out on seeing this. Luckily my dad came along with us and we were able to capture her reaction on video to show David once we got home. I have never seen her more excited for anything. She clapped and danced and pointed at "Melmo" the entire time. I, of course, cried seeing how happy she was. It was so embarrassing but I was ok with that. She had the most incredible time and I cannot wait to take her again.

When Papa Comes to Visit...

We brush our teeth really well...

We like to read books...

And we share sweet cuddles on the couch.

We LOVE when Papa comes to visit.

Sydney has not detached herself from my dad since he arrived. When he opened the door at the airport she said "Papa!" and it has been a non-stop love fest since then. I am still in shock that she knew exactly who he was. She has not seen him in person since Easter and although we have been looking at pictures and practicing saying his name, you never expect a toddler to actually retain the information.

I have really enjoyed watching the two of them interact over the weekend. She follows him around saying "Papa, papa! Up, up!" and has given him more hugs and kisses than I have ever seen her give away to one person. It makes my heart melt to see the two of them bond. We have always made an effort to ensure that she knows exactly who he is and that he is a big part of her life and weekends like this make me feel like we have succeeded.

August Long Weekend!

I am beyond thrilled to be working the last day this week before the long weekend!

I had actually forgotten that I don't have to work on Monday. It wasn't until I remembered that my dad is coming to visit this weekend that I realized that I would have one extra day to stay at home with my little family. I cannot wait to sit around in my pajamas, watch a ton of Olympics coverage and hang with some of my favorite people.

Have a great long weekend everyone!
