A Boy and his Cupcake

I don't know if there is anything sweeter than your first cupcake.

Our little Henry sure enjoyed his first encounter with this sweet dessert. To celebrate his actual Birthday we picked up some of those sickeningly sweet store bought cupcakes with the icing that is so sugary that it tickles the back of your throat. After having him attempt to blow out his candle we let him dig right in. Watching him mash the icing with his little fingers was awesome and the entire time he had a look of sheer joy on his face. Needless to say it was straight to the bath to scrub him clean!

Henry's First Birthday ~ The Details

Henry's first Birthday party was a week and a half ago.... and I had the best time planning it!

Planning a boys party was a completely new thing for me. Usually its all pink, purple, princesses and frills.... this time it was Hockey! I hounded Dave for months to get him to choose a theme for Henry's Birthday. In typical male fashion he would shrug it off or tell me that boys don't need themes for their Birthday parties. Pft! I am a firm believer that every party needs a theme! Eventually he suggested Hockey and I went with it.

We pulled out some of David's Hockey memorabilia to decorate the buffet and I started searching for images of vintage Oilers hockey cards to make a garland. I made mini corn dog muffins, baked and decorated the cake, put together mini buckets of popcorn, made cupcakes and chopped fruit and veggies for hours. I did less baking for this party than I have in a long time but it was a welcome break. I love how it all turned out!

One Bubbly Little Girl

So, I am 98% sure that every kid on the planet is completely obsessed with bubbles.

Last summer we went through more bubbles than I ever thought possible and every time they came out Sydney would jump around and chase them. I am always so impressed that kids can be amused by something so small and simple. While we were in Lethbridge visiting we spent a lot of time chasing bubbles outside and laughing. I love those moments to much. Sheer bliss.

Park Days

I love that park season is officially upon us!

We have been spending so much time outside in the last couple of weeks and the kids could not be happier. After a couple of spring snow storms things have melted and warmed up and the neighborhood is packed with kids again. While we were in Lethbridge we managed to take advantage of the warm Southern Alberta weather and enjoy the park. Henry has really gotten into playing on the swings and Sydney goes absolutely crazy!

I don't usually bring my camera to the park but I have the exact same photos of Sydney wearing that little red coat on that exact swing and the sap in me told me to capture this repeat occurrence. It is so sweet to see Henry going through the same milestones as his big sister!
