Company Picnic Mayhem

Whoohoo! I am only about a week behind on blogging!

We have been enjoying a schedule packed with summer events lately and even though I am often exhausted, it is completely worth it. The kids love being busy and last weekend we attended the perfect event for them. Our company puts on a huge annual picnic that is geared towards families with every fun activity that you could imagine. There were rides, prizes, races, face painting, petting zoo, popcorn, balloon animals and pony rides. We managed to take part in almost all of it and Sydney would have stayed all day if I let her. The only problem was that I was lying solo and trying to wrangle two kids through this kind of a day was A LOT of work. Luckily I had a few incredible co-workers who helped me when I needed it. Even Henry rode a pony and held a bunny.... co cute!

New Look

I am so excited that I have finally found time to update the look of the blog!

I was getting tired of the old look and how dark it was. I have been meaning to update to something lighter and more spring appropriate for so long! I have also been trying to tie in the Brass & Baubles branding to our personal blog so that everything is cohesive.

What do you think?

Brass & Baubles ~ Prairie Sunrise Quilt

I love how this quilt turned out.

I knew that it was time to try something a little bit more traditional in a warmer color pallet (which is a little unusual for me). The outcome is stunning and completely different! This baby is available in the shop now and should sell quickly!

The Start of Track Season

The nice weather always means that it is time for sports in our family.

A couple of weeks ago we headed down to Lethbridge for a visit and David's second big Track meet of the year. This is his second year throwing Javelin and even though I am not a massive fan of track and field it was really great to get out to support Dave. The wind was crazy (in true Lethbridge form) and the kids had a great time cheering on their dad.

Brass & Baubles ~ Adler's Custom Quilt

Admission time... as much as I love how this quilt turned out, I wanted to poke my eyes out while I was working on it.

One of my neighbors approached me to make a custom quilt for their new Grandchild. We worked hard to incorporate as many personal details as possible including her birth date, her name and the initials of all of the other little girls in the family. Each little girl was associated with the animal that was the center of her nursery theme and her favourite color.

The work that went into this quilt was incredible. I hand drew and cut all of the applique and stitched it on using my machine. The center yellow panel is a soft minky fabric and the rest is a gorgeous quilting cotton. All of the details were hand embroidered and I did all of the quilting free motion on my home machine, including the leaf border.

I am so happy this one is done and so happy that it turned out as well as it did!

When the Parents are Away the Kids Play

As I start my fourth week back at work I am finding myself looking back to assess the first few weeks of being a full time working mom.

It has actually been a lot easier than I thought. Aside from a little bit of separation anxiety on Henry's part and a few crappy rushed meals it has been seamless. Lara has been an absolute lifesaver and the kids are loving having her around. She has been amazing for them and they have been keeping busy with fun activites, play dates and trips to the park. Every day that Dave and I are working and Lara is with the kids she sends me pictures. I love it because it makes me feel like I am a part of their day. Here are a few of the pictures that she has sent me over the past 3 weeks.
