Sydney Gets Her Ears Pierced

This past weekend was an exciting one. It was Sydney's first Easter and David had four full days off to spend with us. We were so excited about having a ton of family time and made great use of every moment together.

One of the things we knew we wanted to do was get Sydney's ears pierced. I had mine done when I was very young and we had heard good things about getting them done at a younger age. I knew that I would not be able to handle seeing her actually get pierced so David dropped me off to shop and he went to get them done.

After a few tears and some Tylonel she was absolutely fine. It was as if it had never happened. They have been healing really well and we don't expect any issues with them. Best of all... she looks super cute!

We officially have a super girly girl.

2 Month Shots

On April 11th, Sydney had her first set of inoculations. She handled it like a pro.... I did not.

They do a set of three shots at 2, 4 and 6 months and all are in the thighs. I knew I would have a hard time with everything so I asked my Step- Dad to tag along with me for moral support. I expected to have to hold her down for the shots and I did not know if I would be able to handle it.

The first thing that they did at the appointment was weigh and measure her. She was 12 pounds, 7 ounces and 24 inches long. After the measurements we were taken into an exam room where a super nice nurse asked me a bunch of questions about Post-Partum depression (which I passed with flying colors) and proceeded to fill us in on what the inoculations were for.

Then came the dreaded moment. Dad was told to hold her leg tight and I was told that I would probably cry. I scoffed at the idea of crying.... until the first needle went in and Sydney lost her cool. By the time the third needle was done, I was a mess. Sydney and I wiped up our tears and she was given band aids.

We went home and slept the trauma of the afternoon off. By the time David got home Syd was completely fine... it was as if it had never happened. She made look totally dramatic. I still think that David thinks I probably over-reacted about how hard it was her. I honestly think that they entire thing was harder for me than it was for her.

Oh well, here is to avoiding a few diseases.

Two Months... Two Weeks Late

Life has been insane lately. I have taken on the role of Race Director for a major kids Triathlon in the city and planning is already in full swing. It has taken over all of my free time and every other minute is spent with Sydney.... Thus the lack of posting.

As of April 9th we have a two month old.... how did that even happen??? She is such a character and makes us laugh so much. She is holding herself up and stands with our support. Her neck is solid now and she is altogether much sturdier.

Sydney is becoming super independent. She no longer wants to cuddle to sleep at night on Dave's chest. She insists on going down to bed on her own and puts herself to sleep. She is taking in so much more of her surroundings and has made friends with many of her toys. Smiles are a frequent thing in our home as are happy squeals, kicks and arm flails.

Sydney is out of many of her 0-3 month clothes and is now starting to move into 3-6 month outfits. She has started wearing headbands instead of hats due to the warm weather and is rocking a super awesome mullet, including bald spot from moving her head back and forth to check everything out.

We love, love, love her and hate, hate, hate how everything is happening so fast.

Can't wait for the next month!

Sydney's First Flight

This last weekend was amazing. We took Sydney on her first flight to Vancouver to visit family and friends.

She did great on the flight out. She ate on the way up and played while we were in the air. Things got interesting as soon as the seat belt sign came on to land. As I was holding Sydney I felt my shirt getting warm.... she had a huge diaper blowout. We didn't have time to take her to the bathroom to change her so I stripped her out of her wet clothes, left her in the dirty diaper and wrapped her in a burp cloth until we landed. As soon as we touched down I changed her quickly and all was good.

We picked up our rental car and made our way to David's cousin's house. Brent and Cecilia live in Richmond with their little boy Lucas. We spent the night at their house on the sofa couch with Sydney in between us in a co-sleeper bed.

On Saturday morning we all had a great breakfast together and then made our way down to Steveson for lunch on the pier. I had a really good prawn burger but David stuck to basic beef. We then walked around with the kids for a while before David and I headed out to Mission to visit my Grandma and Grandpa. We had dinner with them and then made our way back to Richmond.

On Sunday morning we woke up and had breakfast together again. We played with the kids for a while and then packed everything in the car and said our good-byes and left to meet friends in Downtown Vancouver. David's race friend Caylee and her boyfriend Cam had their little girl Chlea two weeks after Sydney was born. We met them in Stanley park and went for a long walk in the rain to the Art Gallery cafe for lunch. The girls did great in the cafe and their Dads were so cute holding them.

After saying goodbye we made our way to the airport. Sydney decided to have a diaper blowout before the plane ride this time instead of on the plane. After David changed her, we boarded the plane only to find that Syd was one of six babies under two on our flight. They had managed to put all of the babies into three rows together... it was VERY loud. Sydney was amazing and ate and slept through then entire flight.

All in all it was an incredible weekend. We had a great time visiting and enjoyed every minute with our little girl. We wish that it could have been a longer trip but unfortunately all of David's vacation days are spoken for already.

Can't wait until our next vacation!

Video Updates

Here are some updated videos. They will be permanently posted in the Home Videos section of this blog.

Why Can't I Put Her Down

Uh Oh.... I think I have created a monster.

Sydney has entered an irritating new phase in the last week or so. She realizes that I am her mommy and she will not let me put her down. More specifically, she will not let me put her down to sleep. She will only sleep in my arms and though I love all of the cuddle time I am getting, it would be nice to have some time for myself.

Our house is hopelessly messy and I desperately need to get her to sleep in her crib so that I can start to accomplish more during the day. Most of the time I feel as though we do not leave the bedroom until David gets home and most of the time we do not.

One of the things I am really looking forward to, once I teach her to sleep in her crib, is to be able to clean this house top to bottom. It needs to happen so badly!

Any advice? I feel like I we are never going to accomplish it.
