Danang, Vietnam ~ Marble Mountains

Highs and lows. That seems to be the theme of Danang for us.

The Marble Mountains was on our list of "must sees" when we planned our week in Danang. They are a collection of five limestone and marble rock formations just outside of town. Over the centuries water has carved out an extensive network of caves that have been turned into a network of Buddhist sanctuaries. Filled with carvings (both beautiful and terrifying) and expansive spaces, it was so interesting to be able to explore, hike, duck and walk through the caves.

Unfortunately, half way through we could tell our little Hugh was feeling off. He was warm and whining so we started moving a lot faster to get through as much as we could. After we made it through the main caves, our next stop was taking an elevator up to the summit to see more caves and pagodas. We tried to perk Hugh up with an ice cream and when he turned it down. I knew we had to head out soon.

We took the elevator up and walked around so quickly. It was beautiful! Huge pagodas, massive caverns with Buddhist sanctuaries and other beautiful buildings. It was stunning. Somewhere along the line Hugh fell asleep, so we headed down a very long flight of stairs to the base of the hill so that we could catch a ride home.

Thought this was Mint and Chocolate...

It was actually Matcha and Red Bean.... Dissapointment.

Hugh had an incredible nap after I gave him some Advil and water. He woke up a little bit warm but he was willing to have a snack and some water while watching Paw Patrol (yay!). I also picked up a watermelon (which he inhaled) and an electrolyte drink. We figured that it was a mix of being overtired and dehydrated. Poor guy.

The rest of us needed to eat, so we ordered from a vegan Vietnamese restaurant that came on high recommendation from another Edmonton traveling family. It was delicious! Our meal from Ngoc Chi was huge and cost less than $10 Canadian. I'm telling you, highs and lows!
