We have been working very hard on our new house lately.
One of the biggest renovations that we couldn't wait to tackle was the floors. Although the carpet was a nice neutral light grey and in great condition, it just wasn't or style. With the help of our amazing friends Brian and Conni Pohl and their three super cute kids, we started the process on Monday night!
It has been a learning experience to say the least and the Pohl's have been amazing teachers. David has been working night shift so it has been up to me to gain some experience and knowledge. The whole thing has been exhausting and rewarding at the same time.
So far we have run into a few hiccups. When we pulled up the carpet, we discovered that the original builder had put an extra 3/8 inch sub floor under all of the lino to level it with the height of the carpet. Because we want to have one seamless floor throughout the main floor we knew it was something we were going to have to fix. We wouldn't just pull up the sub floor because the kitchen was built on the higher level. We decided that the best fix would be to add additional sub floor to the lower sections to bring them up. So we have basically had to lay two sets of flooring. Lots of work but it is worth having it done properly.
One of my big fears with the floor reno was using the different cutting tools. I thought that with my luck, I was going to lose a finger. So far so good and we are almost done the entire front room! We have another flooring date set for tonight and the hope is that we will finish everything by this weekend in preparation for our big Olympics party next Friday night.
Conni managed to catch this great shot of me making some cuts on a piece of the laminate. So much fun!
