Ubud, Bali~ Tegallalang Rice Terraces

When you on on the main road outside of the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, all you see are shops and restaurants. If you weren't looking close enough, you would have no idea what lies behind those buildings.

The rice terraces just north of Ubud are world famous. The picture perfect idea of what a rice terrace "should" look like. Vibrant green steps set in a valley that seems to go on forever and it is so beautiful that it doesn't look real. We spent over an hour exploring the terraces and feeling like we were in a postcard. The paths were easy to follow and just challenging enough to make it fun.

Hidden in the valley are several lookout points, tiny rest areas where you can purchase drinks and snacks and swings to enjoy. Hugh hitched a ride in the carrier while we all took in the sights and worked together to navigate the trail. We started our morning as early as possible because we had heard that the rice terraces can get very congested with tourists and incredibly hot. We were so happy that we made that choice! We were almost the only people out there and if we had waited until later in the morning we would have been fully exposed to the sun.

It was such a fun way to explore our surroundings and we ended up taking a million photos that don't to the area any real justice. We highly recommend this as a great family activity if you are ever in the Ubud area. We hired our regular driver for the morning which cost about $25 Canadian and the tickets to enter were about about $8 per adult and free for the kids. You will also need to bring small bills with you to donate to the local rice farmers as you walk over their land. Check out some of the photos and our video below.
